About us
Blackstrap Farm is a family farm located conveniently off of route 121 in Chester, New Hampshire. We specialize in riding lessons for those looking for a relaxed and safe environment in which to learn how to ride for the first time or improve their skills.
Blackstrap is home to two licensed riding instructors: Kathy Donovan, a PATH intl. licensed therapeutic riding instructor and her daughter, Colleen Donovan, a Massachusetts licensed riding instructor. Kathy and Colleen have taught both recreational and therapeutic riding lessons for students ranging from five to seventy years old, and from first-time beginners to seasoned riders. Their goal is to create a safe, relaxing, and fun environment in which students from a wide variety of backgrounds can enjoy horses.

our horses
Blackstrap is home to several Haflinger horses. Haflingers are a large pony breed whose size makes them not intimidating to a child, but fully capable of carrying adults as well. They are well-loved for their calm dispositions and versatility. Our's are no exception.

"Blackstrap Farm is a great place to learn to ride, build your confidence, or just to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the local trails. Their Haflingers are a great ride for any ability level - from beginner to advanced." -Meagan C.
